Masters in Environment Management (MEM) 2026/27 – University of Colombo

The Masters in Environment Management (MEM 2026/27) at the University of Colombo is an interdisciplinary postgraduate programme offered in hybrid mode (online + weekend classes). It is designed to cater to both newcomers to the field and working professionals seeking to advance or transition into a career in environment management. The programme covers ecological, legal, social, and economic dimensions of environmental practice at a local and global level.

Semester I

• MEM 6101 — Natural Resource Management
• MEM 6102 — Industrial Resources and Environment Management
• MEM 6103 — Tools for Environment Management
• MEM 6104 — Introduction to Research Methods and Basic Statistics
• MEM 6105 — Citizen Science and the Green Environment

Semester II

• MEM 6201 — Current Trends in Environmental Management: A Global Perspective (Seminar)
• MEM 6202 — State Policies and their Implications on the Environment
• MEM 6203 — Legal Aspects of Environment Management
• MEM 6204 — Climate Change Impacts, Mitigation and Adaptation
• MEM 6205 — Independent Study

Admission Requirements

• A Bachelor’s degree in Environment Management from a recognised university/institution; OR
• Any other Bachelor’s degree with prior learning or work experience in Environment Management; OR
• Postgraduate Diploma (SLQF 8) with work experience in Environment Management; OR
• Professional qualification in Environment Management from a recognised body; OR
• NVQ Level 7 equivalent with relevant work experience
• A good knowledge of English; satisfactory performance at selection test/interview
